I wasn’t watching the weather, so I wasn’t expecting to see snow this morning. Naturally, I had to go for a drive. The Crosstrek feels capable, but is ultimately held back by the fairly awful Yokohama Geolandar G91 OEM no-season tires. A good set of tires, even decent all-seasons, would be an improvement. The Geolandars definitely lack grip. The AWD system is able to handle the lack of grip fairly well for starting, even starting from a complete stop on a steep hill. Stopping is another matter.
The Geolandars are good for something though:

Looks like, for once, you guys got snow and we didn’t. It was sleeting a bit last night but nothing was on the ground by morning.

We got about 1/2" overall, maybe a bit less - just enough to be a nuisance . It’s already gone, so no cleanup needed. It’s the best kind of snow.

Growing up in SoCal I was raised to believe that ‘snow’ was something you visited - you didn’t live in it...

Honestly, driving in snow itself isn’t stressful, it’s driving in snow with other people that sucks total ass.
Every now and then we get epic snow days where schools are closed, people don’t go to work, etc. and it makes my commute so fun. Last snow day with 30cm+ I had a faster commute than some regular days because I didn’t have to go half the speed limit behind someone who shits themselves over 5mm of snow.
